Persistent trailing icons for editable cells in datagrid for touch

In a datagrid, the editable cells sometimes will have trailing icons, which act as identifiers for the kinds of interaction, and also as the entry points for the input popups if available.
This affects the following input methods:
Lookup
Datepicker
Timepicker
Dropdown

However, the icons only appear on hover or selection. This creates an affordance challenge for the UI on a touch device and removed the entry points to the input popups.
On a touch device, the user will need to click on a cell first, which activates the on-screen keyboard, in order to see and use the icons (except dropdown which has no keyboard input).

Request an option to always show these icons.
