One of the underlying problems with the new visual icon language is the paradigm of applying one rounded corner to an icon. This rounded corner in several cases changes the overall gestalt of an icon and makes it harder for the viewer to intuitively understand the meaning of the icon. Other examples for this detoriation of meaning are the chart icons: as a view I expect a coordinate system with 90 degree angles. There is no such thing as cartesian axes with rounded in the mental model of the viewer. We should not put formal graphic paradigms above understanding of meaning.
